How To Transfer Between Category Budgets in MoneyCoach

Budget Transfer lets you move planned spending room from one Category Budget to another. It is designed for real months where your plan changes: maybe Shopping needs less this month, while Food or Transport needs more.

This is not a bank transfer and it does not create a transaction. It only changes the effective budget limits in MoneyCoach.

What a budget transfer does

When you transfer budget, MoneyCoach creates two linked budget adjustments:

  • The From budget gets reduced by the transfer amount.
  • The To budget gets increased by the same amount.

Your total planned budget stays unchanged. You are reallocating budget room between categories instead of adding new budget from income.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Open Budgets.
  2. Make sure you are viewing Categories.
  3. Find the Category Budget you want to transfer from.
  4. Open the budget's More menu.
  5. Tap Transfer.
  6. In To, choose the destination Category Budget.
  7. Enter the Amount.
  8. Choose the Scope:
    • Only this month applies the transfer to the current month only.
    • From now on applies the transfer from the current month forward.
  9. Tap Transfer.

You can also open the budget details, tap the More menu, and choose Transfer from there.

Choosing the right scope

Use Only this month when the change is temporary. For example, you spent less on entertainment this month and want to give that room to groceries.

Use From now on when your plan has changed permanently. For example, your commuting costs increased and you want your Transport budget to stay higher going forward.

What budgets can receive a transfer

Category Budget transfers are available when there is another eligible Category Budget to receive the amount. MoneyCoach shows the available destinations in the To picker.

If there are no other eligible budgets, the transfer action is not shown or the sheet shows that no other budgets are available.

When to use Transfer instead of Top-up

Use Transfer when you want to move budget room from one category to another while keeping the total budget unchanged.

Use Top-up when you want to add extra room to a budget from this month's available income.
