No bank login is involved, so it works in the US and anywhere else Apple Pay does.

Apple Pay import sits between manual entry and bank sync. It captures tap-to-pay purchases automatically without a bank connection, but it is not a replacement for bank sync where bank sync is available.

What Apple Pay import does not do
It needs a one-time setup in the Shortcuts app on iPhone, and the MoneyCoach account name must match the Wallet card or pass name.
Only eligible in-person Apple Pay / Wallet purchases with the cards you select are captured. Online and in-app Apple Pay purchases, cash and card swipes are not.
It is not bank sync. There are no balances, no statement history and no transfers. MoneyCoach bank sync covers that, in Europe only.
macOS does not support the Transaction trigger; imported expenses reach the Mac app through iCloud sync.

Questions people ask before switching
Is this real automation or a manual shortcut?
It is an automation. Once the Transaction trigger is set to Run Immediately, the purchase is imported without opening Shortcuts or MoneyCoach.
Why does the category look wrong?
Apple gives Shortcuts limited Wallet data, so the Name field is often a merchant or payment label. Map it to a MoneyCoach category with If/Otherwise actions in the automation, or edit the expense later.
Does MoneyCoach see my card details?
No. The automation passes the card or pass name, merchant, amount and name. There is no card number, no bank login and no server in between.

How do I set up Apple Pay import in MoneyCoach?
Open Shortcuts on iPhone, go to Automation, add a Transaction trigger, pick the cards or passes and payment categories to track, choose Run Immediately, then add the MoneyCoach action "Import transaction from Wallet app" and map Card or Pass, Merchant, Amount and Name from Shortcut Input. Make sure a MoneyCoach account has the same name as the Wallet card.
Does it capture purchases tapped with Apple Watch as well as iPhone?
The automation lives in Shortcuts on iPhone. Purchases tapped with iPhone trigger it; purchases tapped with a paired Apple Watch can trigger it when the card issuer posts the transaction to Wallet, but that is not guaranteed. If a Watch purchase is missing, add it from the MoneyCoach Apple Watch app or with Quick Entry on iPhone.
Does Apple Pay import work with Apple Card?
Yes. Apple Card is a Wallet card, so select it in the Transaction trigger and name the MoneyCoach account "Apple Card". For statement history and CSV imports, see the Apple Card budgeting page.
Is Apple Pay import private? What data does MoneyCoach receive?
The automation passes only the card or pass name, merchant, amount and name. MoneyCoach receives no card number and no bank credentials, and no third-party server sits in the flow. Sync between your devices uses your own iCloud account.
Is Apple Pay import the same as bank sync?
No. Apple Pay import captures in-person Wallet purchases through Shortcuts and works anywhere Apple Pay does. Bank sync connects read-only to 2,800+ banks in 30 European countries and imports full account history; it is not available in the US.
The automation ran but the amount or fields are wrong. What now?
Check the device Region setting for the amount format, confirm each field is mapped from Shortcut Input, and make sure the account name matches the Wallet card. The troubleshooting guide linked below walks through both issues step by step.
Does Apple Pay import work on Mac or iPad?
The Transaction trigger is available in Shortcuts on iPhone; macOS does not support it. Imported expenses sync to the iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Vision Pro apps through iCloud, so you can review and budget them on any device.
