How To Add Description, Tags & Payee To Transactions & Transfers

Adding a description, tags, payee, and location to your transactions makes MoneyCoach more useful later, especially in reports, search, and review workflows. You can add these details while creating a new transaction or transfer, and you can edit them later from the transaction details screen.

Add details while creating a transaction or transfer

  • In the Overview, tap the floating "+" button.
  • Choose Expense, Income, or Transfer at the top of the entry screen.
  • Enter the amount and select the account, category, or transfer accounts.
  • Tap the details button in the bottom bar. It uses a document icon.
  • On the Transaction Details screen, type a description.
  • Under Tags, tap Add Tag and select the tag you want to attach.
  • Under Payee, tap Add Payee and select the payee.
  • Tap Done to return to the transaction entry screen.
  • Tap Save to save the transaction or transfer.

Edit details later

  • Open the transaction from Transactions, Overview, Reports, or another list.
  • Tap the description or payee row in the transaction details screen, or use the edit options if you are on a larger device.
  • Update the description, tags, or payee.
  • Tap Done.

Tags are stored as hashtags in the transaction description, so they remain searchable and can be used by tag-based reports.
