Can you cancel Planet Fitness online?

Almost never. There is no company wide online cancellation for Planet Fitness memberships, so the request has to reach your home club in person or in writing. Here is what works instead, and the letter generator that writes it for you.

The short answer

Generally no. Planet Fitness clubs are mostly franchise owned and the methods they accept are an in club cancellation form or a written letter mailed to your home club. There are two narrow exceptions: some clubs have switched on cancellation inside the Planet Fitness app, and some state automatic renewal laws can require an online cancellation path when you signed up online. Neither is universal, so treat them as something to confirm rather than assume.

The trap is what people do instead. Deleting the app, replacing the card, or asking the bank to block the payment does not end a membership. Dues at many clubs are drafted by ABC Fitness Solutions, the third party billing processor behind Planet Fitness memberships, and a blocked draft without a written cancellation on file can leave the account open and in arrears.

The two methods that do work

1. The in club cancellation form. Go to the home club listed on your agreement, ask the front desk for the cancellation form, fill it in, and sign it. Photograph the completed form before you hand it over, and ask for a dated copy or a confirmation email. Another location generally cannot process the cancellation for you.

2. A written letter to your home club. Mail a signed cancellation letter to the home club street address on your agreement, not to a corporate office. Certified mail with return receipt gives you the delivery date in writing, which is the evidence that settles a billing dispute later.

Either way, the request needs your full name, membership ID, home club, mailing address, phone, email, the effective date you are asking for, and an explicit request for written confirmation that future billing has stopped.

Timing decides whether you pay one more month. Clubs commonly need the request before a cutoff date in the billing month for the next draft to stop, and an annual fee can still fall due if it lands inside your notice period. Your membership agreement holds the exact cutoff, the notice period, and any remaining commitment term.

Before you assume the online route is closed

Two checks take about five minutes and can save you a trip.

  • Open the Planet Fitness app. Look under your membership or account settings for a cancellation option. Some clubs have enabled it. If nothing appears, yours has not, and the in club form or a mailed letter is your route.
  • Check how you signed up and where you live. Several states have automatic renewal laws covering memberships bought online. Whether one applies to your club depends on your state and your agreement, so read the cancellation section of that agreement before deciding.
