How to set up MoneyCoach MCP

Enable read-only local assistant access in MoneyCoach, copy the generated setup config, and paste it into your MCP-compatible AI client. The client may send requested data to its configured AI provider.

7 active recurring costs. 3 are due in the next 30 days.

Step-by-step guide

1

Open MoneyCoach on Mac

Use the Mac version of MoneyCoach. MCP access depends on the bundled local helper and the live database in shared app storage.

2

Go to Connect AI & MCP

Open Settings, then open Connect AI & MCP. MoneyCoach shows helper availability, live database readiness, service status, last-used details, and setup actions there.

3

Enable Allow AI Connections

Turn on Allow AI Connections and review the confirmation prompt. No MoneyCoach data is available through MCP unless you confirm. Access remains read-only.

4

Choose privacy detail

Use Share Payee & Merchant Names and Share Transaction Descriptions if you want connected tools to see those optional details. Balances, amounts, dates, categories, budgets, and goals still work without them.

5

Copy Setup Config

Tap Copy Setup Config and paste it into the MCP client you choose, such as Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, or Ollama. That client receives requested MoneyCoach data and may forward it off your Mac to its configured AI provider.

6

Ask a finance question

Try a focused question such as “Which subscriptions are due this month?” or “Show Food transactions from the last 30 days.”

Supported client examples

MoneyCoach generates the setup config from the bundled MCP helper path, so production configs do not require manual database paths. Before connecting one, review the privacy, retention, security, and model-training terms of both the client and any AI provider configured in it.
