Adding a description, tags, and payee to your MoneyCoach transactions makes them easier to search, review, and understand later. You can add these details while creating a new transaction or transfer, and you can edit them later from the transaction details screen.
TL;DR
- Start a transaction or transfer.
- Tap the details button in the bottom bar.
- Add a description, tags, and payee.
- Tap Done.
- Save the transaction or transfer.
Add details while creating a transaction or transfer
- In the Overview, tap the floating "+" button.
- Choose Expense, Income, or Transfer at the top of the entry screen.
- Enter the amount and select the account, category, or transfer accounts.
- Tap the details button in the bottom bar. It uses a document icon.
- On the Transaction Details screen, type a description.
- Under Tags, tap Add Tag and select the tag you want to attach.
- Under Payee, tap Add Payee and select the payee.
- Tap Done to return to the transaction entry screen.
- Tap Save to save the transaction or transfer.
Edit details later
- Open the transaction from Transactions, Overview, Reports, or another list.
- Tap the description or payee row in the transaction details screen, or use the edit options if you are on a larger device.
- Update the description, tags, or payee.
- Tap Done.
When to use each detail
Use Description for context you want to remember later, such as what the payment was for.
Use Tags for cross-category themes such as a trip, event, project, reimbursement, or tax prep.
Use Payee for the person, merchant, business, employer, or friend connected to the transaction.
Common mistakes
- Putting everything in the description when a tag or payee would be easier to report on.
- Using different spellings for the same payee.
- Skipping tags for transactions that belong to a shared project or trip.
- Forgetting to add context to transfers that may look unclear later.
Additional information
Tags are stored as hashtags in the transaction description, so they remain searchable and can be used by tag-based reports.
